Shell Business Energy Reviews, Prices & Tariffs
Save your business money with our exclusive 2024 energy deals
Shell Energy is perhaps one of the best-known names in the oil and gas sector in the domestic and international markets. However, Shell Energy has only been operating as a supplier of electricity and gas to homes and businesses since 2018. Formerly branded First Utility, the company was bought by the Royal Dutch Shell conglomerate after agreeing to a deal in late 2017.
Shell Energy is now rapidly becoming one of the UK’s biggest energy suppliers in terms of market share. As of 2019, they have over 700,000 customers. This is thanks in part to the purchase of Green Star Energy in 2019 which brought an additional 200,000 accounts to the company.

Is Shell Energy 100% Renewable?
All of Shell Energy’s electricity sold to customers comes from 100% renewable sources like wind, solar and biomass. This is guaranteed by the company because its electricity is certified by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs). These certificates don’t mean that the electricity that is provided is itself from a renewable source necessarily, but that it has been ‘matched’ with equivalent units from 100% renewable sources in the UK.
While the company is investing more in renewable technologies, the actual amount of renewable energy produced by the company is only a very small proportion (less than 4%) of their fuel mix total.
